Secretary of War Pete Hegseth says he prays daily for troops and seeks biblical wisdom amid Operation Epic Fury in Iran.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth Prays for Biblical Wisdom as U.S. Troops Face Iran in Operation Epic Fury
United States Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has declared that prayer plays a central role in "every decision" the Trump administration makes regarding the ongoing conflict with Iran.
Speaking at a Monday press conference alongside Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine, Hegseth opened with a direct message to American service members on the front lines of Operation Epic Fury.
"May Almighty God watch over you and His providential arms of protection extend over you. Godspeed, warriors."
When asked by a reporter about his prayers for troops in harm's way, Hegseth gave a deeply personal response.
"My prayer for them is that I do pray for them. My wife prays for them. Our family prays for them. Our cabinet prays for them."
The Secretary of War added that his daily prayers center on seeking divine guidance for the mission.
"When I pray every day for them and for this mission, I pray simply for the biblical wisdom to seek what is right and the courage to do it."
President Donald Trump himself invoked divine protection when he announced Operation Epic Fury on Saturday, asking God to "protect all of our heroes in harm's way."
Christian leaders have offered varied responses to the military operation. Rev. Franklin Graham encouraged believers to pray for President Trump and the military personnel protecting American interests abroad.
Hegseth Invokes Biblical Wisdom as Operation Epic Fury Advances in Iran

Progressive Christian activist Shane Claiborne took a contrasting stance, arguing against the military operation.
"Violence only begets more violence. When we live by the sword, we die by the sword."
The press conference came as Hegseth and Gen. Caine provided operational updates on the advancing military campaign in Iran, which the administration has described as a response to Iran's refusal to negotiate on its nuclear program.
The Crusader's Opinion
It is refreshing to hear a Secretary of War speak openly about prayer and biblical wisdom. For too long, Western leaders have been embarrassed by their faith, hiding it behind closed doors while the enemies of Christendom openly declare their religious motivations. Pete Hegseth does not hide. He prays publicly. He invokes the Almighty over American warriors. That is leadership. Our troops deserve a leader who seeks God's guidance before sending them into battle, not one who consults only polls and political advisors. Pray for our soldiers. Pray for wisdom. And pray that the West remembers whose strength truly sustains it.
