Mike Winger's Bombshell Video Forces Bethel Leaders to Confess They "Didn't Want to Tell the Truth"

Bethel Church leaders have released a statement following a nearly six hour video from Bible teacher Mike Winger that details what he characterizes as fraudulent prophecies and sexual misconduct by prophetic minister Shawn Bolz.

In Winger's January 17 video titled "The Skeletons in Bethel's Closet Are Now Going To Speak," he accused church leaders of knowing about at least one victim who accused Bolz of sexual misconduct and alleged that leaders failed to act despite knowing about his behaviors for years.

The bombshell exposé prompted Bethel Church leadership to finally respond.

"We are clear that we are not responsible for Shawn's sin; he is. But we are equally clear that we are responsible for our sins, actions, and inactions after the fact," Bill Johnson, Kris Vallotton, and Dann Farrelly wrote in a joint statement.

Bethel announced it distanced itself from Bolz in 2025 after he failed to provide "satisfactory responses" over allegations of fabricating prophecies more than five years ago. Bolz has long faced accusations of using social media data mining to craft prophetic words.

Culture of Sexual Harassment on Ministry Team

Bethel leader Kris Vallotton confirmed that sexual harassment allegations against Bolz emerged in 2019. Bolz denied the allegations when confronted.

"After further investigation, which included speaking to three of Shawn's former team members, the accusations were corroborated and showed that this was a culture within Shawn's team," Vallotton added.

Bethel church leaders acknowledged that they have "hurt" and "scared people" because they "did not want to tell the truth enough, early enough, long enough, or loud enough."

"Our hearts are grieved, and embarrassed," they added. "When we sin or mess up publicly as we have, it's important to take responsibility publicly."

In response to the scandal, Bethel said it would recommit to "responsibility, truth, accountability, and transformation in Christ" and enact "greater levels of oversight within staff and leadership."

The church introduced a "Safe Church process" in February 2025 that invited anyone experiencing abuse to report it via phone or form to a secure third party team outside Bethel.

THE CRUSADER'S OPINION

He told the truth and that should be commended.

Charismatic celebrity culture is fundamentally broken when churches prioritize influence over integrity.

Bethel's "Safe Church process" came in 2025. Six years after they knew.

That's not repentance. That's damage control.

Every church that hosted Bolz after 2019 needs to ask Bethel: what did you know and when did you tell us?
