Armed Man With Shotgun and Gas Can Killed by Secret Service After Breaching Mar a Lago Security Perimeter

An armed man was shot and killed by law enforcement after breaching the secure perimeter at President Donald Trump's Mar a Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida early Sunday morning, February 22, 2026.

The suspect has been identified as 21 year old Austin Tucker Martin of North Carolina. Martin drove through the north gate of the property around 1:30 a.m. as another vehicle was exiting, according to authorities.

He was carrying a shotgun and a gas can when he entered the compound. Two U.S. Secret Service agents and a Palm Beach County sheriff's deputy confronted Martin and ordered him to drop the items.

He put down the gas can, raised the shotgun to a shooting position. The two agents and the deputy fired their weapons to neutralize the threat.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw described the sequence of events at a press conference.

President Trump was at the White House at the time of the breach and was not present at the resort. FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed the bureau would be "dedicating all necessary resources" to the investigation.

Investigators believe Martin purchased the shotgun while driving south from North Carolina. A box for the weapon was later found in his vehicle. His family had recently reported him missing.

Martin's cousin, 19 year old Braeden Fields, described him as quiet and afraid of guns. Fields told reporters that Martin "wouldn't even hurt an ant" and worked at a local golf course, where he donated portions of his paychecks to charity.

Fields also noted that Martin's family are Trump supporters, but Martin himself "never really talked about anything" related to politics. Authorities said Martin was not previously known to law enforcement, and investigators have not yet identified a motive.

Investigators are now compiling a psychological profile of Austin Tucker Martin as they work to determine what drove the 21 year old to breach one of the most heavily guarded properties in the United States. The investigation remains ongoing.

The Crusader's Opinion

Let us be clear about one thing: no matter the motive, breaching the security perimeter of a sitting President's residence with a loaded shotgun and a gas can is an act that invites lethal consequences. The Secret Service did exactly what they are trained and duty bound to do. This young man's family is in our prayers, and the circumstances are deeply troubling, but we cannot allow sympathy to cloud the reality that protecting the leader of the free world is non negotiable. In an age where political violence is becoming normalized, we must pray for our leaders, pray for our law enforcement, and pray for a nation that desperately needs the peace that only Christ can provide.
