Security Alert: 200 Armed Fulani Militia and Boko Haram Plan Coordinated Attacks on Benue State Christian Communities
Intelligence reports indicate that 200 armed Fulani ethnic militia in collaboration with Boko Haram have crossed the River Benue in motorized boats from Nasarawa State, heading toward Ogbaji community in Gwer West County with plans for coordinated attacks on rural communities in Gwer West, Agatu, and Apa Counties of Benue State.
This alert comes as violence in Benue State has already escalated. On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, armed Fulani militia attacked Abande village market in Kwande LGA, killing 16 traders and a mobile police officer. Five more people were killed in separate incidents in Gwer West within 48 hours.
Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) ambushed and killed two armed militia at Ahume village on January 26 as they attempted to block the Makurdi Naka Road to abduct commuters. But the military response has been insufficient to stem the tide.
