102 Christians Killed in 33 Days: Fulani Militia Wage War of Extermination on Taraba Benue Border
Fulani militia burn over 200 Christian villages and 35 churches in Taraba, killing more than 100 and displacing 90,000 believers.
Fulani Militia Burn Villages and Churches Along Taraba Benue Border as Thousands of Christians Are Displaced
Armed Fulani militia have launched fresh attacks on Christian communities along the Taraba Benue border, burning homes, killing residents, and forcing thousands to flee just days after two state governors pledged to restore security to the region.
On March 8, 2026, attackers struck Chanchanji Ward villages in Takum Local Government Area, setting homes ablaze and driving families into the bush. The following day, militia invaded Peva in Chanchanji Ward, killing two people, before striking Sangambe in Akate Ward of Donga County that same night, killing two more and burning several homes.
The attacks came barely a week after Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas and Benue Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia met in Wukari to announce a joint security framework for border communities. Despite this public pledge, military checkpoints stationed nearby have done little to stop the violence.
This is genocide. Our people are being systematically exterminated while the world looks the other way.
Church leaders from the Catholic Diocese of Wukari detailed a campaign of terror that has killed more than 100 people and displaced more than 90,000 Catholics across the region. At least 35 churches have been vandalized, with several church buildings damaged or burned and religious items destroyed.
Between January 2 and February 3, 2026 alone, at least 102 Tiv Christians were killed and over 31 injured in no fewer than ten coordinated Fulani terrorist attacks on Chanchanji district within just 33 days.
Survivors report that armed fighters enter villages while families are asleep, kill residents indiscriminately, burn homes and churches, destroy crops, and return days later to consolidate occupation of seized farmland. Security analysts note that as pressure increased in Benue, Plateau, and parts of Kaduna, militia elements migrated toward less resistant corridors, with Taraba becoming an expansion zone.
Rev. Dr. Micah Philip Dopah of the Northern Christians Religious Leaders Assembly (NOCRELA) confirmed that many corpses remain unidentified and several people are still missing. Community leaders and NKST pastors have repeatedly called on the federal government to intervene.
Over 200 Christian Villages Destroyed in Southern Taraba as Fulani Ethnic Militia Expand Territory

The Catholic Diocese of Wukari reported that more than 200 Christian villages have been destroyed across southern Taraba since September 2025. The violence, which residents and church leaders describe as ethnic cleansing, has systematically targeted Tiv Christian farming communities who have lived in the region for generations.
Twin protests erupted in February 2026 as Tiv Christians accused both the state and federal governments of abandoning Taraba to Fulani terrorists. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and NOCRELA have raised alarms, demanding immediate military intervention and prosecution of identified attackers.
The Crusader's Opinion
Over 100 Christians slaughtered in 33 days. More than 200 villages burned to the ground. 90,000 displaced. 35 churches destroyed. And the Nigerian government's response? A handshake between two governors and empty promises. This is not a conflict. This is a coordinated campaign of extermination against the body of Christ. If 200 mosques were burned in any Western nation, the United Nations would have emergency sessions within hours. But when it is Christians being butchered in Nigeria, the world offers only silence. Every church that burns in Taraba is an indictment of every government, every institution, and every leader who chose comfort over courage. The blood of the innocent cries out from the ground, and God will not be mocked.
